No, they are just suggestions. However, we ask that when teaching a language point, you follow it up by simulating a real situation which your student is likely to encounter. 


For example, the verb + object + infinitive language point could be followed up by a role play whereby the student has to give their colleague (you in this case) instructions. For example, ‘I need you to call her tomorrow’ or ‘I would like them to send me the document this afternoon.’ (Not, ‘I need that you call her tomorrow’, or, ‘I would like that they send me the document this afternoon’, which is a common mistake among students).
